Job Description: Senior Database Administrator (Application Development & Support) -

We are looking for a talented, experienced, and self-motivated Application Development DBA. This person will work with Software Developers, DBAs, Vendors, and other in-house technical resources. This person will play a key role in the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of software applications and databases. This person will also be responsible for creating indexes and tuning queries and stored procedures.

 

Primary Duties

• Manage MSSQL Server Databases throughout the development and production lifecycle

• Guide developers in the use of MSSQL Server and features of MSSQL Server

• Tune queries and stored procedures

• Design, develop, and analysis of indexes, views, and triggers

• Limited ?On-Call" Production Support

• Internal Audit and SOX Compliance

• Respond to database change requests, run ad hoc queries, scrub and migrate data to multiple environments.

• Monitor database space usage and health

• Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations

• Help to develop and enforce the best practices for database usage, high availability and business continuity

• Help to optimize and systemize data migration processes

• Monitor, test, and tune database backup, recovery, and maintenance processes

• Disaster Recovery planning and execution

• Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security

• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes

• Maintain & execute patch/update schedule for database software

• Perform scheduled maintenance activities after hours when necessary

• Maintain a state-of-the-art knowledge of existing best practices in database administration

• Providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

• A bachelor degree in Computer Science, Business, Information Technology, or equivalent experience

• 5+ years of SQL Server Database Administration Experience

• 2+ years of experience as a software development DBA or software developer

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• In-depth understanding of stored procedures, query plans, indexing, and clustered indexed views

• Experience in SQL 2008/2008R2/2012/2014database management and related products from Microsoft including PowerShell, Windows2008R2/2012R2 Server operating systems

• Experience in SQL Server Always On High Availability configuration, support, and troubleshooting

• Experience with problem solving, database installation and management procedures in development and production environments.

• Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies

• Familiarity with database system profiling and performance analysis

• T-SQL experience and programming in SQL Server, scripting and database design

• Experience with advance SQL queries and reading query execution plans

 

Spend 75% working with developers, performing the tasks listed below…

1. Performing code review with developers

2. Tuning queries and stored procedures

4. Creating and tuning indexes

5. Advocating the use of the latest T-SQL Features and new DB Technology to developers

6. Participate in DBA Team Meetings

Spend 25% working with other DBAs and Infrastructure resources, performing the tasks listed below…

1. Creating databases

2. Tuning databases

3. Creating database maintenance jobs (DB Backups & Recovers)

4. Installing DB Software Upgrades

5. Creating DB High availability & Disaster recovery Plans

6. Answering technical database related questions

7. Performing Data Fixes

 

Required Skills technical Skills

1. Strong knowledge of MSSQL 2008 R2 and above

a. 3+ years using MSSQL 2008 R2 and above

2. Experience with SSRS & SSIS

3. Experience using Database Performance & Monitoring Tools (Spotlight, SQL Profiles)

4. Experience with buck copy utilities

5. Disaster Recovery Experience

6. Database Development Experience

a. 2+ years as a Software Developer or a Developer DBA
