The Senior Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for overall maintenance and administration of all Linux/Unix systems supported by the IT Operations team. You will be responsible for the management and operation of our enterprise Linux environment which consists of workgroup and enterprise class servers that support mission critical databases and applications. The position requires an individual who has demonstrated technical leadership in a Midrange or large environment who can handle the implementation of multiple projects while working with groups across the enterprise. You should possess experience administering mission critical application environments that require 100% uptime.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
* Coordinate projects with the Systems Engineering team to deliver and support plans for new technology implementations.
* Sustain a high rate of workflow and work on multiple projects.
* Act as technical expert/go to person in troubleshooting high level systems issues.
* Implement best practices and workflow efficiencies across all Linux platforms
* Work with Red Hat Satellite
* Develop effective cross training strategies among Operations staff.
* Contribute to the analysis, design, build and test phases of new/existing servers
* Recommend and implement policies on system deployment, use and services.
* Develop and implement effective host security and control structures for hosted products and environments.
* Implement and test disaster recovery mechanisms.
* Work closely with development and quality assurance staff to ensure smooth product life cycle implementation.
* Qualified candidates should have a minimum of 8-10 years systems administration experience with at least 5 years in a senior role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with all Linux operating systems. Extensive experience in Linux Hardware and Software including large scale clusters is desirable.
* Knowledge and understanding of network concepts and technology including TCP/IP protocols, high availability system design, Web hosting or database management is preferred.
* Experience in building and supporting environments with 100% uptime requirement is desired.
Other Requirements:
* 8-10 years of progressive technical experience, 5 years in a senior technical role.
* You should be detail-oriented, have very strong communication and organization skills.
* You should be familiar with fundamental operations concepts such as change control, importance of good documentation and problem ownership.
* The ability to work productively in a team environment is essential.
The successful candidate will be personable and give high priority to customer/client satisfaction.
* The position requires 24x7 availability via email and/or cell phone and limited travel primarily in the US.
* Off-hours effort and flexible work hours including weekend work are required.
* Previous experience in a team lead and/or mentoring role will allow you to grow within the Global systems administration team.
