Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Groovy / Grails (or very solid Ruby on Rails) developer who can contribute strongly to a collaborative team. The project is to re-implement a Web Logic J2EE / Oracle based operations and billing enterprise system, to a Tomcat, Groovy, Grails and Oracle infrastructure. Our client follows an Agile methodology, and emphasize teamwork, quality and delivery. Their enterprise system has a wide range of challenging areas; from contract entry workflow, to rent and return operations, to maintenance and repair, to daily + monthly billing, to generation of general ledger entries. Using Agile, they have broken this project into manageable pieces, and team members are free to sign-up to work on any available piece in which they are interested, and are able to complete.
One's primary focus is on team oriented application development, but should also be capable of solving complex problems with minimal guidance. The role will be centered on software development and data warehousing, but will also require one to work on everything from Systems Administration to Production Monitoring to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
Technical Responsibilities:
· Works closely with the System Architect and Senior Software Engineers to research, design, and write business software in an Agile development environment
· Follows industry best practices, procedures, and concepts as part of the development process
· Works with clients and Business Analysts to determine software requirements and system impacts
· Develops scalable, high availability applications and data warehousing solutions
· Supports the infrastructure on which the solutions execute
· Creates and executes unit and functional test cases
· Screens, categorizes, evaluates, reconciles, reports and resolves data integrity issues
· Writes technical documentation in support of applications
· Responsible for the delivery of applications within budget, schedule and quality guidelines
Required Skills:
· Engineering Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
· 3+ years of software development experience; 2+ years with Groovy and Grails or Ruby and Rails
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Project and task oriented with a focus on details
· Some experience with J2EE, or Java, application development
· Familiarity with Oracle or another RDBMS
· Familiarity with performance analysis and debugging tools
· Capable of mastering new tools, languages and operating systems with training and on-the-job experience
· Motivated to improve service, efficiency and quality of work on an on-going basis
Preferred Skills:
· Familiar with Agile Software Development Methodologies (SCRUM)
· Knowledge of unit testing frameworks such as JUnit
· Linux, Network, Active Directory or other System Administration experience
