Position: Linux /Solaris Engineer
Location: Ft. Worth Texas
Duration: 6 Months plus extensions
Job Description:
Systems Engineer – Solaris/Linux. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the planning, support and maintenance of a growing infrastructure of Solaris & Linux servers at American Airlines. This candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
• Support and maintain Solaris and Linux servers
• Participate in developing strategies to provide best practices for hardening and security for critical information systems
• Provide direction, assistance, cross-training and troubleshooting insights to co-workers
• Capacity planning, system design, planning and implementation
• Hardware, OS, network and application level troubleshooting
• System and network-level performance monitoring/tuning
• Responsible for server infrastructure, which include enforcement of operating system updates and security patches
• Prepare and implement proper procedures and service level agreements to ensure optimum system integrity and data availability
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an Information Systems area -OR- four or more years of work experience as an administrator in a production enterprise system environment.
• Three or more years of experience as a Solaris, Unix/Linux systems administrator in a production enterprise system environment
• Experience with RAID concepts and Storage Area Networks (SAN)
• Shell/Perl scripting experience
• Experience with the Solaris operating system
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Ability to evaluate, create or update Standard Operation Procedures and participate in policy creation and maintenance
• Excellent communication skills
