Role: Cognos Developer

Location: Fort Worth, TX

Duration: 6+ Months

·         The Human Resources department seeks an experienced Cognos Developer with a minimum of 5+ years of broad, hands-on experience using development tools in the Cognos Business Intelligence Suite.

·         The Cognos Developer / Designer will support the client's ability to collect, manage, and visualize vast amounts of data to influence decision-making at all levels.

·         The developer will also perform data analysis and develop reporting specifications, complex and interactive reports, multi-dimensional cubes, scorecards, and dashboards while working closely with cross-functional business teams. 

·         Must be able to analyze data and reports; conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects.

·         Must be adaptable and able to discern quickly discern requirements and utilize the latest business technology tools, concepts, and techniques. 

Essential Skills and Knowledge

Exhibit advanced proficiency with coding highly developed SQL statements to use in reporting solutions, troubleshoot and resolve issues, or optimize SQL to improve performance

 Experience in querying data and using multiple databases (e.g. DB2, Oracle) in a business environment with large-scale, complex tables

 Strong knowledge of data modeling, star schema, and denormalized data models

 Designs and implements test plans for unit testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing.

 Provides end user training on reports, dashboards, cubes, scorecards.

 Ability to build relational/DMR/OLAP metadata model using Framework Manager/Transformer with drill through reports and publish.

 Ability to Design and develop complex Report Studio Objects e.g. Active Reports, Complex Conditional Formatting, Complex Hierarchical Development within List Frames

 Ability to implement state of the art data visualizations and analytical solutions

 Translate business requirements into appropriate technical design and solution architecture to maximize efficiency, maintainability, scalability

 Determine testing needed to assure the functionality and integrity of reporting solutions.

 Create test plans and evaluate testing results taking corrective action as necessary.

 Ability to transform technical requirements into business documentation

 Ability to communicate ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.

 Innovative, proactive, and progressive in designing and implementing next generation business intelligence solutions 

 Highly self-motivated and directed

Strong attention to detail.

 Team-oriented with an ability to work in a collaborative environment.

 Analysis of data to ensure data quality and business value are achieved

 Ability to transform complex business requirements into technical requirements

 Effective verbal and written communication skills and can translate complex technical terms into non-technical language that can be understood by business reporting users and leadership

 Experience working with JavaScript * a plus

Technical Requirements

·         IBM Cognos 10.2 experience is preferred. 

·         Report/Analysis/Query Studio, Workspace/Workspace Advanced

·         Framework Manager

·         Power Play Transformer and Cognos Cube Designer (Dynamic Cubes)

·         Cognos Connection and Cognos Configuration

·         Active (Interactive) Reports

·         Business/Predictive Analytics a plus

·         Event Studio a plus

Education/Experience

·         Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems or a related discipline or equivalent experience

·         Minimum of 5 years of broad, hands-on Cognos experience required

·         Cognos certifications * a plus required
