Job Title: Database Administrator
Location: Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Duration: Through the end of June 2013
Rate: $40.00/hour C2C (this rate is NOT negotiable)
Details: The DBA position is for a duration of 6 months, with a set end date of 6/28/2013. Resource will coordinate with agency developers to plan and implement database analysis, changes, and upgrades, and mentor agency staff on best practices.
This project is a modernization and reengineering of the existing OARS system, upgrading it from ASP.NET 1.1 to ASP.NET 4.5 and incorporating over 100 outstanding fixes and feature requests in the application code (Visual Basic .NET), database (SQL Server 2005) and reports (SQL Server Reporting Services), and refactoring and simplifying the system's internal structure for future ease of maintenance.
Some major initiatives within the project's scope include fixing known issues within the user interface, granting access to staff at allied state agencies to augment current business practices, granting access to the public to incorporate e-commerce style repayment of debt, simplifying or streamlining the generation of letters and legal documents, and creating detailed documentation of current business practices and rules.
The Database Administrator in this role will be work with existing agency staff in reviewing the OARS database, making recommendations for and overseeing the implementation of approved coding changes aimed at streamlining the data structure for future ease of maintenance and performance tuning, overseeing the upgrade process from SQL Server 2005, and mentoring agency staff on database design and administration best practices.
A qualified candidate must:
- Have a strong command of database design and administration best practices.
- Have experience working with large-scale database reengineering projects.
- Have experience working with Very Large Databases (VLDBs).
- Have experience upgrading databases in SQL2005 to later versions.
An ideal candidate would additionally have working knowledge of the Pennsylvania welfare system and experience working in an Agile environment.
Additional details:
- The initial contract is full time, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday (with lunch 12:00 - 1:00 pm)
- Business casual dress code
Required Skills:
- 3 years DBA experience working with large scale re-engineering projects
- 3 years DBA experience working with Very Large Databases (VLDBs)
- 1 year experience upgrading SQL Server 2005 to later versions
- 5 years of Database Administrator experience
- 5 years experience mentoring in DBA best practices.
