Our client is a leader in the education technology market for K-12 school systems as well as higher ed. They looking for multiple Dev Ops Systems Engineers and will consider contract or temp-to-perm for the right candidates. 6 month minimum duration. The DevOps Systems Engineers are part of a new team with the role of bringing together development, QA and operations to ensure the delivery of high quality operational systems. This role is part of a team that integrates and sets the direction of effective operations processes (deployment, monitoring, alerting, producing quality metrics, and more). The role is responsible for providing the tools required for a self-service cloud and ensuring operational best practices early in the development cycle. This role is responsible for overseeing and actively participating in the automation of software builds and deployments. This role requires solid interpersonal skills and a collaborative nature. The Systems Engineer will support the evolving needs of multiple agile teams and projects. The role must collaborate continuously with other Systems Engineers and developers to ensure consistent delivery across all development teams and avoid duplication of efforts. We are looking for an experienced ops person who "gets" DevOps while maintaining best practices. ?
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:??
1. Automation of the environment?? ·
---Automate and replace error prone manual processes·
---Prioritize automation work to maximize available schedule·
---Create and track metrics that illustrate the gains and savings of automation.
2. Infrastructure Delivery? ·
---Work closely with engineering and operations teams to maximize infrastructure capacity·
---Work with the team to provide real-time capacity information; this information is crucial to the overall success and velocity of all agile teams ·
---Make recommendations on which AWS services are best suited to tasks
3. Continuous Execution ·
---Works with Delivery Leads and tech leads to maximize efficiency in the production of quality products·
---Provides the team the operations resources it needs by effectively managing priorities·
---Identifies and remove roadblocks; keeps things moving·
---Know when to escalate and ask for help
4. Continuous Improvement?? ·
---Participates with Delivery Lead in defining an overall definition of done·
---Senses where performance breakdowns are occurring and takes actions to improve team performance·
---Creates big and visible means for measuring operational efficiency; creating charts and tables that show progress and highlight areas that require attention· Interprets data to identify biggest opportunities · Works with team to identify and implement improvements
Skills:-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work history·
Experience with automation using Puppet·
Strong scripting skills in Bash (Python/Ruby a plus)·
5+ years of professional, recent experience in supporting large scale deployments in production·
Proven success in a System Administrator/Engineer position·
Deep and demonstrable understanding of Linux O/S; must be comfortable using the Linux shell·
Proven, strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in meetings, email and informal discussions·
Excellent organizational skill and ability to juggle multiple demands without missing deadlines·
Strong creative problem-solving skills·
Understanding of the public cloud space, including AWS and tools to maintain operational excellence in a dual cloud / on-premise environment Hands on build, delivery, and support of AWS strongly preferred
Nice to have
One or more years experience automating the software build and deployment process ·
Basic understanding of publishing concepts, such as content acquisition, content creation, editing, data conversion, and formatting·
Experience working with Java-based projects·
Knowledge of or experience with open source software, such as ICE and Lucene.
Experience in any role that is part of an agile development environment or team ·
Implementation, use, and administration of monitoring and reporting tools a plus (e.g. Cloudability, Cloud Health Technologies, etc.)
